March 15 (SeeNews) - New Kopel Car Import, part of SIXT Group Romania, said on Friday it has signed a contract with the eastern Bacau municipality for the delivery of 48 electric buses for a total price of 145.1 million lei ($31.78 million/29.18 million euro).

The buses, to be delivered within 11 months, are manufactured by Chinese automotive company BYD and can carry 88 passengers, New Kopel Car Import said in a press release.

The BYD electric buses have a minimum transport autonomy of 200 km under real traffic conditions specific to Bacau municipality, and will be manufactured at the BYD factory in Komarom, Hungary.

The contract marks the most significant tender won by New Kopel Car Import year-to-date, following those in Constanta for 20 buses, Buzau for 9 buses, and Cluj Airport for one electric bus designed for airport services, the company said.

New Kopel Car Import has been the sole importer of BYD buses in Romania since 2018.
